Overheard in Seattle: Only in the 206

By Jennifer Trott on Oct 26, 2011

Happy Hump Day, Seattle. What it do? Per usual, we’ve been trolling our inbox for the best eavesdropped tidbits in all the Emerald land to showcase this week’s Overheard masterpiece. Each week we bring you a new theme of the good, bad and just plain bat sh*it crazy spewing from the mouths of your fellow Seattleites and on occasion, our not so welcome, “oh isn’t it cute that we’re in Seattle and it’s raining!” tourists. Every week that we burn finger calories cutting and pasting your submissions, we have a moment of pause/wonder and figurative kissing of the fertile soil beneath our Toms-toting feet.

For nowhere else in the (less green rest of the) country could one find the brand of wit that we possess in our fair city. We know that you agree, and if there were a pledge of allegiance to Seattle, you’d be reciting it now (after picking out the non-PC references, of course). Without further ado, we’d like to kick off a call for “only in the 206” sights and sounds. Send yours to us at @OverheardSEA and enjoy the start we’ve gotten below.

Pointing out tacky within the tacky (very artsy fartsy).

"Well, being an art major, I really can't handle it when the art on cruise ships is cheap. It's just tacky."

Shout out to @MsHannaBrooks for this OH.

Environmentally friendly transport metaphors in the workplace.

Scene at a facilitated meeting (in lieu of the typical “parking lot” giant post-it, often used for capturing issues set aside by a group)

Mortal fear of any state inhabited by Bush Jr. or Sr. and/or an abundance of fuel inefficient vehicles.

“I was out of town. I went to Texas. I'm lucky to be alive.”

Thx to @ChrisEager.

Please be brief. No one wants to read your great American novel.
