Can't Miss It: The Weekend
FUNKERAL PROCESSION: Kick off your mischeiving right with Tubaluba, Seattle's best slice of New Orleans, as they lead what they term a "parade / dance party / costumed / freaktastic funkstravaganza" through Pike Place Market down to the Owl 'n Thistle. Once there, give yourself over to good times blues, ship shaking bluster, and an entire set devoted to the works of Ray Charles. Now's a good time to break out your drinking mask and dancing spats.
Friday 9:00 p.m. // Owl 'n Thistle // FREE
COLLEGE TRY OCCUPY: Occupy Seattle begins a new chapter this Saturday when its base of operation and general assembly moves to the Seattle Central Community College. Protesters have already pledged solidarity with SCCC's students, faculty, and staff; all of whom, as they see it, struggle with tuition increases, layoffs, and budget cuts. In return, SCCC issued a letter threatening civil and/or criminal prosecution. So, it's a little tense. But Occupy thinks this is the right move, so let's support 'em by marching along as they re-locate from Westlake to SCCC, host a Halloween party, and then raise their tents. Pumpkins, costumes, and fervor encouraged.
Saturday 5:00 p.m. // Westlake and Seattle Central Community College // FREE
GET JUICED: The brainchild of KEXP's Darek Mazzone and DJ Rhythma, Juice is, bar none, the city's best evening of dance available. Spinning a non-stop mash of beats, Mazzone and Rhythma tighten the floor without stressing the look, weaving a casual, inclusive vibe into their international sets. This time around, the two have invited Latin Grammy Nominee Mr. Pauer and DJ Darwin of Mad Rad to join them in setting the floor on fire. Metaphorically speaking, of course. All proceeds benefit the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students, and, just like pretty much everything else this weekend, a costume is encouraged.
Saturday 10:00 p.m. // Re-bar // $10
HAUNTED SHOTS: And it just wouldn't be a Halloween weekend without a pub crawl, so on your way over to Occupy, why not catch up with a massive costume crawl from Fado to Shorty's, with plenty of layovers and zombie attacks in between. The route is subject to change, but you can follow the crawl's Twitter (because, of course, right?) @SeaPubCrawl. It's organized drunken pageantry, so start sourcing your wealthy benefactor now. Saturday 12:00pm - 8:00pm // Various Locations // FREE (Well, you buy your drinks)
