Be A Good Person: Recycle Your Old or Broken Holiday Lights
Hooray! It's the day after Thanksgiving. And in many households, this means recovering from eating too much, shuttling visiting guests out of the house (and last), and rummaging through your garage to locate boxes and bins full of holiday decor.
Following an extensive de-tangling session, you may be disappointed to find that last year's lights are damaged or broken--or, that heaven forbid, just one light is out, and now, they're all out. Blerg.
Regardless of what's gone amiss on your single string of twinklers, rather than tossing these misfit lights in the trash along with the decaying turkey carcass and deviled egg remains, we suggest you recycle. You recycle everything else, so why not go green with those defective lights?
Unlike batteries and other impossible-to-recycle items, lights are actually kind of easy. Simply remove all packaging (that includes the weird bag of spares that you've left on for the last 8 years), and drop them off at one of many participating locations.
Heading south this winter? We suggest stopping by the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium as your donation will help support the zoo’s many conservation efforts.
