Can't Miss It: Monday

By Jose A. on Dec 26, 2011

jaco_and_et.jpg Considering that Boxing Day is traditionally a day of shopping, recovery and general lazying around about the home as people prepare to jump back into the workday on Tuesday. However, if the sense of cabin fever extends well into the evening, here are a couple of options for you to consider.

Sweet and Lowdown: What hasn't been said about Woody Allen at this point? Prolific film-maker, storied career that spans decades and several media, and his love for early 20th Century jazz is evident in the soundtracks for the majority of his films. Tonight Allen returns to Seattle for the second time in his life, this time playing at the Paramount where Allen and his New Orleans Jazz Band will select from their impressively extensive 1,200 song catalog to create a unique romp through the jazz age.

Tonight at 7:30p.m. // The Paramount, 911 Pine Street // $45.75 - $65.75

Turn On Your Heartlight: If you're looking for something a bit more small scale and intimate, you could go to the Central Cinema and enjoy dinner and watch E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Steven Spielberg's paean to childhood innocence. Though it's not talked about as often as other Spielberg blockbuster hits, E.T. is as earnest an emotional ride as the man has been able to deliver throughout his career, the film is as amiable and as ingratiating as a puppy. Before you know it, you're invested in the simple tale and you sincerely want to make sure that the weirdly shaped blob with the glowy heart and finger makes it home.

Tonight at 6:30p.m. // Central Cinema, 1411 21st Avenue // $6
