While Christmas in Seattle was pretty much defined by Sunday's arrival of Windmageddon 2011, it was still a generally peaceful weekend, with some notable exceptions, naturally.

The biggest exception, of course, is the windstorm that arrived on Sunday morning and created a massive amount of chaos throughout the region, at one point leaving nearly 18,000 Seattle City Light customers without power on Christmas day (that number was reduced to 3,700 by the end of day). Unfortunately, the storm did not abate without its tragedy, claiming the life of an 8-year-old Oak Harbor girl when the car she was riding in collided with a tree felled by the wind. Elsewhere this weekend, yet another skirmish between the Seattle Police Department and the Occupy Seattle protest movement, as the SPD showed up to evict protesters from a Central District home on Friday night. When the protesters refused to leave the premises, the SWAT team was sent in and two men were arrested for trespassing, property damage and weapons violations. A new crowd appeared to support the Occupiers and language escalated from there. [Publicola]

Everett police are searching for further information surrounding the shooting of a 20-year-old Whidbey Island man who was found with a gunshot wound to his leg on Saturday morning. The man is currently convalescing at Providence Hospital, where he underwent surgery for non-life threatening complications. [KIRO]

Seattle area analysts are starting to believe that maybe, just maybe, there were too many apartments built during the most recent construction boom. Thank goodness for analysts, where would we be without them. [Seattle Times]

  • I was at the house with the police action Friday night, and I attend most of the Occupy Seattle General Assembly meetings.  Your report is inaccurate.

There was no protest.  There was no order to leave the house.  This was not related to any action initiated or endorsed by the Occupy Seattle General Assembly.  Three people were arrested.
