Can't Miss It: Wednesday

Over at the Triple Door's Musicquarium, you can catch Paul Benoit's flavor of roots rock, Americana and folk music while grabbing a quick drink before the commute home. Benoit has been a fixture in the local singer/songwriter scene (more in the Paul Simon sense than The Local Strangers), this late afternoon he will be joined by Hugh Sutton on the accordion. A distinctive, diverse and relaxed sound is a great way to calm the nerves before facing rush hour traffic.
Today at 5:00p.m. // The Triple Door's Musicquarium, 216 Union Street // Free (All Ages)
If the resurgence of psychedelia (whether pop or otherwise) led by strong female vocals is more your speed, head over to Chop Suey where Luminol is set to headline an evening of like-minded performers. The self described "theater rock" band from Seattle are hard to pin down stylistically speaking, though one could hear elements of Beirut, Portishead and Morricone in their music. Also playing tonight are Jurek and Lady Krishna's Peppermint Lounge.
Tonight at 8:00p.m. // Chop Suey, 1325 East Madison Street // $7 (21+)
Or perhaps you'd prefer a night of fast, loud and crude metal away from any other posers you're likely to find at other places. In that case, The Funhouse has exactly what you need: The Schmidtaholics, Sok are scheduled to open for The Mentors (NSFW), who are making their black hooded return to Seattle on their 30th Anniversary tour. Given the general wall of sound these guys like to put forth during their shows, bring your earphones (you'll thank us later) and leave your touchy moral issues at home -- they have no business being at the Funhouse.
Tonight at 9:30p.m. // The Funhouse, 206 5th Avenue North // $7 (21+)
