The A.V. Club's semi-regular feature Sawbuck Gamer just came out with their "Best Browser Games of 2011" list, and its contents could serve for at least a week's worth of Afternoon Breaks. However, as time is running low, we'll just feature our favorite two from the list.

First up would be Pica Pic, which will thrill some of the older gamers out there, along with those wishing to experience the earliest gaming thrills without spending a lot of money. An enterprising fellow spent the time to faithfully recreate a growing number of pica based games (essentially, the precursor to LCD handheld games), giving us a throwback to gaming's elemental and instinctual roots. If you'd like to support Hipopotam's crusade to bring these old school treasures back, a PayPal link has been provided.

The real discovery of the list, at least as far as your correspondent is concerned, is Damp Gnat's Wonderputt, one of the better, if not the best, approximations of mini-golf we've seen in electronic form. The whole course fits on one screen, but is tricked out with numerous bells, whistles and obstacles delivered with a humorous wink. Better still, a typical round could be played in less than seven minutes, though this should be approached with caution, entire afternoons could be swallowed up in the process.
