Friday Morning Headlines
- Sounds like they just need to smoke a bowl together: Supporters of I-502 - the most recent initiative to attempt to legalize recreational marijuana use in Washington State - have turned in over 300,000 signatures, almost guaranteeing its inclusion in the next ballot. The initiative is not without controversy, however, as medicinal marijuana users have taken issue with the initiative - specifically, the language which would make it illegal for drivers to have more than 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood in their system.
- Revolution girl style now:A national study released earlier this week showed that Washington State has one of the largest gender-based income gaps, with women making 76.5 percent of their male co-workers on average. The national average is 81%, which places us in a firm 11th place for pay equity. Hey, at least we're not West Virginia.
- Completely fucked: Johnnie Lee Wiggins - the man who was arrested yesterday for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Woodinville teacher Prudence Hockley - wasn't even supposed to be in Washington State, according to prison officials in Georgia, his place of origin. Wiggins - a man with multiple prior offenses, including theft, assault, and exposing himself in public - was the focus of a tug-of-war between officials in Georgia and Washington, with the latter wanting him extradited back to his home state, but officials in Georgia refused.
- Slay bells:Police in Fife have arrested two men suspected of stealing over $20,000 worth of firearms from stores earlier this month. One of the suspects was identified via security camera as wearing a Santa hat during the robbery. The jokes. They write themselves.
