As music editor for Seattlest over the last couple years, I've learned a lot. Mostly about local music but also about sharing what you love with others, the power of friendship and community and most importantly about myself. This is my goodbye (and hello) to all of you, our loyal readers. You've done more for me than I can say and hope to hear from you and speak to you in the future about the universal language of music.

Cake vs. Pie Photography Contest: Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Seattlest has never been shy about mixing it up. And when it comes to topics that have communities pitted against one another, you can be sure at least a handful of the staffers will decidedly be near the action, weighing in with our unsolicited (but always educated) opinions. And the more esoteric, the better.

Translating Science into Images: Daniel Beltrá's SPILL: Images from the Gulf
Beltrá's photographs are truly things of awe. They are large, saturated portraits of a fragile world where the line between human interference and natural decay is very fine indeed.
Christopher Nelson's FANS Photography Show Turns the Lens Away from the Performer
In our wonderfully prolific Seattle music scene, the opportunities for concert photography seem endless. While lenses tend to focus on the stage, local photographer Christopher Nelson has found more inspiration among those that make an artist who they are: the fans. Digital Photog Internship Opp at Woodland Park Zoo
We retweeted this earlier, but the Woodland Park Zoo has an announcement up for a Digital Photography Internship Opportunity. The zoo is looking to staff their Communications and Marketing Department with a separate unpaid intern for each a Spring and Summer 2010 session - a three month opportunity. Here’s a summary:
Happy Birthday to Social Documentarian Milton Rogovin!
Rogovin, who turns 100 on December 30, is an heir to the legacy of social documentary photographers like Lewis Hine and Jacob Riis, who--armed with a camera and driven by conscience--worked to document the lives of people whom much of society had ignored or taken for granted. Rogovin's series on Appalachian miners, taken from 1962-1987, are particularly impressive.
